Prof. Ivan Marazov, Dr.Litt.
Ivan Marazov was born on March 15, 1942 in the village of Pirne, region of Aytos. He graduated from the Repin Institute in Leningrad in 1967. He received his Ph.D. in Art History in 1976, and in 1987 – Dr. Litt. He received the award for critique of the Union of Bulgarian Artists in 1975 and for Art History in 1985. He was also awarded by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for contribution to Art History in 1996. He is a member of the Medici Academy in Firenze since 1988. Prof. Marazov is the first to receive the Alexander Fol Award for his contribution in the studies of Thracian culture in 2011.
He was Director of the Institute of Art History at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences from 1988 till 1991.
Prof. Marazov was Minister of Culture in 1996 and 1997.
He teaches at the New Bulgarian University at the Department of Art History and History of Culture, where he was conferred the title of New Bulgarian University Honorary Professor for his contributions for the development of the Department in 2012.
